Need all advice I can get

We just transfered to NC and because of the laws here were having trouble finding a midwife. I did find one but she is over 2 hours away and for having good insurance and having to pay a few thousand out of pocket, I dont know if I can convince my hubby. So now Im seriously considering uc that is if I can convince my husband and maybe even myself.

My daughter was born 5 hours after labor started with no epi but because I was gbs positive I had an IV in and they put some kind of pain medication in it without even asking. I then ended up with an episiotomy after only 20 minutes of pushing. My second pregnancy I found a midwife but once again was in a weird situation, we lived on an island and the midwife had to fly to be there. After going a week over she left and I was forced into a hospital birth. I went 17 days over and he was born about 2 hours after labor started. His birth was very traumatic for me. I walked into the hospital ready to push and as I started to push the dr. freaked out and thought he was breech. Come to find out he was sunny side up. He "allowed" me to push and without any notice or numbing he gave me an episiotomy and pulled my son out.

I have had two births that could have went so amazingly but 2 different drs. took that from me. Both my babies were 9.2 pounds. I know as long as no problems come up I can do it but then again Im just not sure. Im terrified of what happens if I tear or if something goes wrong. Please can someone give me any advice, any insight at all? Thinking of having my baby in a hospital is killing me. As bad as my hospital ex[erience in Alaska was, it was still nothing compared to what I know I will experience here.

First of all, hugs to you as you decide what is best. I have had one traumatic birth and four good ones (2 in hospital, 1 UC at home, 1 attended at home.) I can only imagine where you are at. People UC for many different reasons and at different times in their lives. I have personally, as a doula, met many people who were UCing because of no access to the kind of care provider they want to have. There are lots of reasons. The best advice I can offer you is to search your heart. If you feel like you have no other choice but to UC and you are uncomfortable with that you have to face that fear and decide if it grounded in intuition or just plain old fear. Women have been giving birth since the beginning of time and even today many women give birth unattended and have wonderful births. Most bad things that happen do not come on suddenly. Do your research, find out what things you would be okay dealing with at home by yourself and then make a back up plan if it makes you more comfortable to have a plan. Good luck momma!
