children, parents and ssi/ssd

I read this website from another thread http://www.ssa.gov/pubs/10085.html#who but I still don't get it.

Does the money paid to the child come out of the parents fund so that they will no longer have an income after so many years?

I know I researched this and was confused a few times before and was told the child wouldn't get anything nor would I get an increase. But I will ask here and perhaps someone could explain it better to me.

I am on ssi and ssd for 8 years or so. I have one child. Am I ellegible for an increase of "income" or is she ellegible for a check in her name? Would this check result in me being 40 or 50 and my 'basket' becoming empty and having nothing to live on for myself?

Should I make another attempt to call them and ask what's up?

The money paid to the child is extra on top of the money paid to the disabled parent. It doesn't take away from your lifetime benefit.
What happens is that each person receiving SSDI has an amount they are eligible to receive. Suppose it is $1000/month. But, SS says that the maximum total family benefit can be $1500. That means your child can receive that extra $500. Or if you had 2 children, one would get $250 andthe other would get $250.

Is it just the I. part? For what it's worth what I get is laughable but it was because I was so young. I get 190 ssi and 450 for ssd. I probably shouldn't post that but oh well.
