Camping theme birthday party for 6 year old - need ideas

We're going to have a camping themed party for my son. We'll roast hot dogs and marshmallows over a campfire and have our tent set up for the kids to play in.

What would you give as favors? I was thinking of getting some inexpensive water bottles and putting a granola bar and glow stick in each one, but I'm having trouble finding inexpensive water bottles. I need about 10 favors/goody bags.

I don't like to give goody bags with little plastic trinkets. I'd rather focus on one decent item, KWIM?

Any ideas for either a cheap source of water bottles, or something else for a favor?

Can you define "cheap," and give an idea about quality standards.

As an alternative, how about compasses and a local trail map.

Pocket knives! (Couldn't resist, just kidding!)

My son is turning 6 soon and I like your theme, maybe I'll steal it!

My real ideas, on the general outdoorsy/camping theme:
- Little flashlight
- Compass
-constellation guide of some kind?

I kind of go back and forth on the "cheap" factor. Do I disregard safety altogether and get water bottles from the dollar store? (The kids attending the party are all kid who live on our cul-de-sac, and I know for certain that none of the other moms worry about BPA or plastics, so they'd all think a dollar store water bottle was fine!) Or should I go in another direction, since I can't really afford to buy "good" bottles for that many guests?

I like the compass idea. I have that on my list to shop around for, too. A local trail map is a great idea! We have a huge park nearby that has free maps, and I could get one for each child.

My husband suggested pocket knives, too, LOL.

If you do this theme, I got some great invitations from Vista for $3.99 plus shipping for 10. And I know there are probably some free shipping codes floating around, but I forgot to look for one. I was going to make some invitations, but I thought $3.99/10 was a good price, especially considering the time it saved me.

I started his invitation with "Grab your sticks, __________ is 6!". (I thought it was clever.)

For favours how about flash lights. If you an find cheep wind up ones they are great, no need to keep finding batteries. Mine can't be the only kids who always leave them on

I saw waterbottles at TJMexx, not for a dollar, but till pretty low cost.
