Wendy, I hope everything works out at work for you!!! I've had a lot of stress too lately, which is one of the reasons I've turned to running, it's helping me deal so much better!!!
Today, I did a short run, but I ran fast and hard. And had ds in the jogger. I finally got the wheel adjusted.
So, I'm not sure how far, cause I didn't calculate it. But I had a good sweat on, and it felt good.

ANd I stepped on a scale, and finally showed some weight loss...i already knew it..but ya know :

good morning running mamas!

I was home yesterday and don't usually go on-line there so I'm posting today.

Ran 3 miles yesterday morning and 2.5 today. Yesterday I was so hot in my running pants that today I wore shorts - it was so liberating! I can't believe how warm it is here (55F in the mornings, no wind and really humid). I know it won't last but it sure is a nice treat.

MS - you're a maniac! Running, walking to the library and snowshoeing -- sounds fun but I'm pooped just from reading about it :LOL

Geo - will your clear sense by the 30th involve a move west across the lake? That would be fun if it does! Sorry your job is unpleasant now - but running is a great stress reliever. I used to work in an unhealthy environment (mentally unhealthy) and I got out the first chance I could.

MS - isn't it nice just to see the numbers on the scale go down? Even though we shouldn't really worry about the number, we've been conditioned too long by society so sometimes you've just got to check.

Have a great Friday!

Sigh, the geophysical rumor mill informed me yesterday that they have their interview list and I'm not on it. I've applied for several academic jobs this year, and my grad school advisor has now failed to send letters of recommendation to the two most likely places. I got a call a week ago from another place saying they were really interested and were going to call this last Tuesday to schedule the interview, and well, I've tested my phone -- it works.

I should find out in April if the funding I applied for will be granted. That will keep me here for another two years. However, if I don't get that, and I don't get a permanent academic job interview by the end of April, I need to find something else. I'm not willing to move my family around every two years hopping from postdoc to postdoc looking for some marginal academic position.

My current funding ends in August. I figure I can find something in the private sector between May and August. I have a really good lead that would take us back to CA (though the wrong part) and that is sounding so very -- sane -- right now.

Add on top of all this employment uncertainty the fact that one of the women I work with here is pretty much getting screwed by her advisor, and I'm close to recommending to her that she walk away from 4 years of really good work.

....very long winded response to your question. It's also justification for yet another run yesterday. I went for 30 minutes, but I required a few minutes of walking as break.

bummer re: your job search. I can certainly see how something more permanent is in order. Too bad things don't seem to be working out in my area. I have a cousin who just decided to call off the job search for a year. She's finishing a post-doc and is due with dd #1 at the end of May. She'll stay in Seattle for another year (where her dh has a job and she can do some part-time work in her dept next year) since she really can't travel anymore for interviews. I also think it will be good for her as a mom to hold off on a tenure-track job when her dd is a newborn. But I digress... I'm sure it will work out for you in the end -- I'm a firm believer that things happen for a reason.

In the meantime, enjoy those runs!

Yes, the issue of more kids vs tenure track job also plays into this.

RAND, here I come.

Wendy, things will work out the way they should. And though the clarity isn't always clear (oxymoron?), when it's clear, it is, kwim? Everything will happen as it should!

Well, I just woke up, I took an overtime shift last night, and now I'm scheduled for another night tonight, and I'm wondering if I should go for a run...I know I'll feel better for it, but I only have 2 hrs before I need to be at work, and I have not prepared my supper yet...nor have I seen much of the baby today!!! Dd is out with grandma, on a date. ....

Schatz~I can't believe you were able to run in shorts!!!! It's nice here, but not THAT warm!!!!:LOL And my legs, sure felt all that walking and snowshoeing the other day!!!
WEll, I've just made up my mind, I'm going for a 20 min run, just enough to wake me up, I'll run hard!!!!

CHeers, and happy Friday!

I am still not running. Good grief, I only had my wisdom teeth out! I can walk a long way now but any bouncing sends me into extreme pain again. I am going away fro a few days next week (my beloved husband is a saint - he is sending me for a few days of R&R), Maybe by the end of next week I can contribute something meaningful to this discussion again!

(((Shantimama))))

Well, at least you're walking. You'll be running soon enough. It took me a long time to get back after having my wisdom teeth pulled out too.
Keep strong, and keep walking!!!!

BTW, I got my butt out there today, before work, only 15 minutes of running, but I think I ran pretty fast.
And BTW, I figured out my rate of running, it's about 6.5miles/per hour. I don't think that's fast, seeing as runners are continuously running past me at the waterfront, when I run there!!!!

Will do my situps, did 90 last night, but alas, only 7 pushups!!!!

Snowshoed:3ks
Situps:450
pushups:60

Today is Sunday, and I biked to work, which is 8 ks one way, I made it in 17 mins....not sure how good that is??? (Wendy, what do you think?)

My stats for the week:

Aerobic exercise: 415 minutes (wow!), with biking: 175 min; jogging: 127 min; walking: 113 min.
Situps: 350
pushups: 150 (including 20 from the toes)

I came down with Karen's crud yesterday, so I may go for walk this afternoon, but jogging is out.

MS--great pictures! We looked at them yesterday, and Karen found the baby in every single one. I'm so amazed you still have snow. Our last little pile in the shade is long gone.

You make your bike commute a at pretty fast clip! Mine is 2.5 miles and it takes 15-17 minutes, but my pace is fairly dominted by signals and stop signs. My previous commute only had 1 stop light and was also 5 miles (~8 km) and I was doing that in 20-22 minutes. From what you tell me, you're averaging 28 km/hour (17.5 mph) on your bike.

Shantimama, I'm sorry to hear your mouth still hurts! I've got such a big mouth I'll never need my wisdom teeth out. Have you gone back to have them checked? Any chance of an infection? (((HUGS))) I hope you're on the mend soon. You R n R sounds great.

Wendy,

I'm glad you like the pictures! I'm going to be adding more, so you can check em out every once in a while.
I didn't have to stop once on my way to work. There were two hills, but then a nice downhill stretch. Glad I'm going at a good pace. Last year it took me 25 mins, but I was also pg with lil Sammy!!!!
Awesome stats btw, enjoy your walk today!!!!

well, we're technically into a new week but I'll post my stats from last week here and then pop over to the new thread.

ran 4 times last week (Tues, Thur, Fri, Sun) - 2.4 mi, 3 mi, 2.4 mi, and almost 4 mi) not sure on the total aerobic time (I didn't keek track very well) but my run on Sunday was 42 min with about 40 min of running (stop to stretch at 5 min, two brief jacket adjustments later - it was raining!)

Great photos MS -- you can see me and my dd here

See you in the new thread.
