Baby on the Back?

I have a two month old infant. She doesn't like to spend much time in a seat, on the floor, sleeping alone, etc. I am having a hard time getting anything done that involves bending over, cooking, etc. I usually wear her in my Moby wrap, though I also have ring sling - but I never manage to get her in it quite right (the rings slip down and it doesn't distribute the weight as evenly).

I know that many cultures carry their babies on their backs. Are there any commercially available carriers for infant back carry? Or could I somehow use my Moby or sling for back carries? It seems like most photos I've seen of back carries are of toddlers (at least in the US).

Move please

Could someone please move this to babywearing?

I'm sorry I had two tabs open...

Once this gets moved i'm sure others will have plenty of advice.

You can put a small baby on your back, but you need to be careful, and I think most would use a woven wrap for that.

I've been putting my DD on my back since about 4 months in SSCs, mostly the Pikkolo (though the new Gemini would work well, too).

Basically you want either a relatively short and narrow SSC or a woven wrap in a high back carry.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, although some people do back carries in stretchy wraps (like the moby), you're not really supposed to.

I had an uppy baby with my last (I really wondered what this had to do with diapering). She was on my back starting at 2 days old. With a woven wrap I used the rucksack carry until she was about 2 months, and then I favored the "african back carry" and once she could sit I liked a basic ring sling style (mine was tied), just shifting her onto my back from my hip.

you could use a mei tai or the asian blanket one (forget the name) or a cotton gauze wrap.

wearyourbaby.com sows you how to make and wear a wrap.
