Flu shot and child care

Thread Starter
My DS (now 16 months old) didn't get the flu shot last year (nor the H1N1 vaccine) because I just didn't feel right doing it. I have never had a flu shot (including while I was pregnant) and don't plan on ever getting one for myself.

Here's the thing - DS is in child care (public facility) 3-4 days per week. I really don't want to get him a flu shot but the dr is already pushing it "especially since he is in DAY CARE" - thanks for the guilt trip doc.

I know that he is bound to get more colds and germs being in child care, but I'm just not sure about the flu. He eats a healthy diet and still BFs at night (we co-sleep) and in the AM.

I'd like to make an informed decision, and come prepared to his next visit to defend it....Isn't it sad that I have to prepare to defend the choices I make for my child?

Thoughts?

You could add a vitamin D supplement.

If your ds wasn't in daycare, the dr would push it because you work, or go to the mall, or dh works, or whatever else. There is always a reason doctors find to push almost every vaccine.

And you do not have to defend your decision. Any attempt you make to do so will be refuted. Just say "no", and move on. If the doctor continues to push, let him know you appreciate his input, but this is not up for discussion.
