Caffeine

SO, I know there have been a million threads on this, but I decided to try to have some coffee this past week, and at first it didn't seem to affect DD at all, but then last night, she was up a ton, and I'm wondering if it built up in her system. I have had maybe 2 cups each morning the last few days. So, I'm going to stop, but am wondering when it will be out of her system? She is 7 weeks old.

The half-life of caffeine in a 6-week-old is 41 hours, so yes, it can build up in her system.

The liver rapidly develops, and by 12 weeks, the half-life is 14 hours.

For reference, the half-life of caffeine in an adult is 3-6 hours.

Wow...
I figured out that I could not have caffeine very quickly after a night of sleeplessness following a soda. I had no idea it had that kind of effect.

Anyone know how bad things like chocolate chip cookies or caffeine free sodas are? I know they have some caffeine, but is it enough to keep the baby up?

this is interesting; barring the first trimester when coffee was just nasty-tasting to me, I have cut back a little on my caffeine, but I still enjoy a cup of coffee every morning and the occasional caffeinated soda. doesn't seem to bother DS a bit. But then, I was consuming the same when pregnant, so maybe he is used to it?
