Do I *need* a double stroller - Page 2

DD1 was 21 months old when I had DD2. I didn't get a double stroller until DD2 was almost 1 and we were taking a trip to visit inlaws. I would say if you do a lot of sightseeing type things (parks/zoos/museums etc) then its good because young child do get tired fast. Im glad we had outs at my in-laws since I visited DisneyWorld ALOT with the kids and there is no way DD1 could have done all that walking.
I have a double jogging stoller I use for runs/fast walks that I take almost nightly but it doesnt' fit in our car. We have a cheapo double umbrella stroller that I take when I know we are going to a play with a TON of walking and I know DD1 won't be able to keep up or will get tired out.

This is true. Of course my DD stopped napping in strollers a while ago and DS was a very strange baby and NEVER would. He isn't much for napping if there are things to be seen and only had a 50/50 chance of sleeping while being worn too. I wouldn't let the nap thing discourage you from it if you're going to get a good deal, since if you're going to be out at nap time you can wear the baby and let your older child ride in an umbrella stroller to nap. I got a hand-me-down double jogger, but my friend bought hers on Craigslist for $25. My daughter just turned 5 but still likes to ride sometimes, especially when we go on longer hikes, so the jogger is nice. Like a PP, though, I babywear a lot, so, for example, when we went to Disney this summer and needed to cover a lot of ground, we used the single stroller for my oldest and the baby was in the mei tai.

My kids are about to be 1 and 3 years and I still haven't bought a double. We are making do with an umbrella stroller and our Graco single stroller, but it would be nice for me to be able to stroller both kids, esp. since my 2 year old has discovered he likes to ride in the stroller (I guess b/c the baby gets to, he never did before).

I saw this one while we were on vacation and thought it was cool because the babies face each other. Other than that I really want a Joovy, but I noticed both kids like to sleep in the strollers, and I don't think it looks very comfortable for that. I may start bringing our 2 seater wagon and trying that for a bit, but in my heart I really want a double stroller! Sucks they are so expensive.

we don't have a car and live downtown and really like our double stroller..it's the main mode of transportation for us!

it's a mountain buggy (made in new zealand) has a 3yr warranty, can take a lot of weight, can push one handed, can lock or unlock the front wheels and is GREAT in the snow.

i often wear ds2 and push ds1 in the stroller for dayhome preschool every day (20min walk each way x 4 times a day) and love how easy it is. it weighs a lot, but we started off with a $50 used one that was difficult to manoeuver and the expense was worth it for us to get a really good stroller. if you do go for lots of walks i'd go with a mountain buggy / baby jogger / bob / phil and teds for all weather usability. if you don't, and just use it for short jaunts a sit and stand would probably suffice, and would be more lightweight too.

i also got the phil and teds...just in case. but it seems now that there are alot of other brands that have a doubles attachment (valco, city select, uppababy, britax has one...)
adn somebody suggested a city mini double which really is very portable for a side by side.
i have disk issues too and there are also times that we have the kiddo out during naps/bedtime so if i had two i'd definately want the option.
heck....one of my friends uses a double for her 3 year old and 5 year old for long distances and at night.
