dairy detox reactions?

I posted this in another location and was suggested to me to post it here as well....

I took ds to his dr about 2 wks ago and they told me he has "pre ecsema" and I should cut out wheat and dairy. I already dont eat wheat as it bothers me, so I figured I would give it a try. I have been wanting to cut dairy for awhile, just to see how I feel. Cutting wheat two years ago made me feel AWESOME. And right away, too. So being O+ blood type that supposedly does better without wheat or dairy, I thought I might feel as good. WRONG. I feel terrible. My head is congested, and I blow my nose about 40 times a day. Twice I have had headaches so bad that blowing my nose was terrifying. I made the mistake of eating a piece of cheesecake 2 days ago and that just made everything worse. I guess my question is: Does everyone go through this when cutting dairy? I know it is a common irritant in breastmilk, and I have heard of many people over the years discussing it, I just cant remember who now. I dont feel like I ate that much before, but Im sure Im grossly underestimating it. I do like cheese, and ice cream was my and dhs evening treat while I was preg. Just wondering if Im alone it this......mucous

I know my DS had a wicked withdrawal from gluten, so it's definitely possible to have withdrawal from a food.

Is it possible that your stuffy nose and sneezing are totally unrelated and could be being caused by environmental stuff?? I know my allergies have been going haywire lately with the ragweed in the air. Just a thought.....dairy could have made it worse by the fact that it aggrevates the mucus situation, or caused a reaction to it.

Although I agree with rhesp (it's totally possible something else is aggravating you), I did have 2 weeks of "detox" from dairy. I coughed stuff up, my sinuses drained, etc etc. But afterwards, I felt so much better than I had in YEARS.

When I cut milk for my son, I felt extremely drained and anxious for over a week. I didn't have much of a physical reaction but my emotions were very restless, anxious, upset, and I was exhausted. After a week, though, I felt great! I dropped 20 lbs. and my skin looked amazing. Now that I'm done nursing and have started eating dairy again, my stomach acts up every time I eat it, and I gained that weight back (boo!), and I get this weird reflux-y feeling in my throat immediately after eating it. I'm thinking I was slightly intolerant to it myself

Question: When you all cut out dairy, did you just cut out the obvious stuff at first (milk, cheeses, yogurt, etc), or did you read all the labels and proceed super cautiously from the get go?

I am just begining to cut dairy out of my family's diet and I am now wondering if my poor son is having some sort of "detox" :-( I had never considered his attrocious behavior as anything but obnoxious before ... but a food intolerance and subsequent detox might explain A LOT!

And why wouldn't we experience a reaction as we detox from dairy? We sure react to caffine when we go without!

no I havent been reading labels but dont eat much that comes with labels since I cut out the dairy. I did cook onions in butter last night, as I wasnt planning on eating them but did have a few, but other than that, I bought new salad dressings and my breakfasts are oatmeal and fruit everyday, and lunch is a salad, a smoothie, or leftovers. My dh doesnt like cooking from packages, so we dont really. I thought at first I was sick but I dont "feel" sick, If that makes sense. There is usually a feeling that accompanies a cold for me and I dont have it. I feel "different." Bad, but different. It is starting to lift, and I have dropped a few pounds since beginning this almost 2 weeks ago now. But I could still blow my nose without ceasing. I would like to stay permenently off dairy, but being married to the son of former dairy farmers, its almost blasphemy
