insert help - what layers to use

I have some fabric I was told would be good for making inserts. I mostly use pockets or covers with a lay in soaker/insert. I'm eliminating microfibre and have quite a bit of hemp that I picked up here and there. We sort of EC so many pees and all poops go in the toilet. I plan to serge the edges of whatever layers I decide to use and get rid of the last of the microfibre.

So I have some organic cotton "fleece". In reality it's not like polar fleece. It's like gym pant material. Fleecy on one side with the knit showing on the other side. I also have some cotton sherpa that seems pretty thin. Last I have some Zorb which I realize is not a natural product.

Any ideas?

The only fabric you have that I'm familiar with is the zorb. We put 3 layers and surround it with flannel. It doesn't have any stink issues, but does take a little bit longer to dry.

My fave dipes are made of cotton fleece. And that's what cotton fleece is - sweatshirt material. Don't know why they didn't name poly fleece something else to avoid confusion.

It depends on how heavy a wetter your guy is, but my Dream-Eze soaker is 3 layers of cotton fleece, folded in half, so 6 layers total in the soaker, but they wash and dry easier made that way. And the body is another 2 layers of cotton fleece. But my guy is an extremely heavy wetter, and 1 pee will go through all 8 layers of fleece, and 2 pees the entire dipe will be soaked. And they're all sewn with the smooth side facing the baby.

One thing to keep in mind is that with all natural fibers, I like to prewash once before sewing, so I don't have insane shrinkage, but then your finished product will still need to be prepped/washed another 4 or 5 times to reach maximum absorbency.

Thanks! That's a great help. He doesn't seem to be a heavy wetter but he's only 5 months. I did wash for shrinkage but haven't prepped yet.
