It's been interesting. She's 10, unschooled forever, and she gave it a lot of thought, researched her options, and presented her ideas and reasons soundly. So, now she's enrolled, and I'm working with my resistance to being demoted to the role of "learning coach". <sigh>
So far it's mostly been placement tests, subject pre-tests, and LEAP (state standardized test) pre-tests. She's done fabulously on all of them.
She was placed in the 5th grade, and scored high on all the pre-tests. She's completed a few lessons, but most have to wait until her books arrive. So, there's one anecdotal record of a kid transitioning out of unschooling without being "behind".
I hate all the crap I have to do on my end of this online school, but am sucking it up to help her have the educational experience she wants, so in a way we're still unschooling, yes?
Anyone else out there with an unschooler who chose a more structured path on their own?
