I am ready for the shortage to be over!! I check every store I go into, but haven't seen it in my area yet. I assume it should be out there soon, right? I need pumpkin!!!

Yes, I found a source but it is only available in very large bulk tins.

We only got one can we found luckily last year and this year we haven't seen any at all so far.

Nothing around here either.

It's soooo good roasted at home though! Does take a little extra time unfortunately. I assumed the cans were still there in the baking aisle with the fruit pie fillings I never look at. But I've had 2 pumpkins so far. Get a smallish one, cut in half, scoop the pumpkin guts and seeds out, roast open side down for about 30 mins with a little water in the pan, rinse or turn up and let it sit to cool it off, scoop the meat (ice cream scoop works well), then puree it (hand blender or food processor). It's only about 10 minutes of actual work, honest.

I'm going to get some pumpkins and roast them, but I do like having canned around in the winter (all year round really!) for various things. If I had more freezer space I would just puree and freeze it, but I don't.

That's our problem, too. The last two years we have roasted and pureed tons of pumpkin, but when freezer space is lacking or you're pregnant dying of a pumpkin craving in August, it sucks.

Whole Foods had a big shelf dedicated to pumpkin on the end of a row this weekend. The drought is almost over...

I haven't seen any anywhere, including Kroger and Whole Foods. My aunt had asked the grocery store managers when they thought there might be more, and she was told not this year! I don't know if it's that dire, but...

I had heard about the impending problem last year and bought two cases. Went through most of one this past year and I gave my aunt 4 cans. I still have about 10 cans although I just made a pumpkin pie this past week. I hope it will take us through the season, as we love it and canned pumpkin is one of those RARE things where the canned version is better than made by hand.

I bought a case of organic last year so I have some year round

I just bought a 3 pack of Libby's 32oz at Costco. I didn't know there was a potential shortage. Definitely stocking up next time I go!

From what I've read, so far this season is looking okay. The shortage is due to issues with harvesting last season.

I'm in NoVA and our Wegmans has a ton of cans! It's organic too.

There's tons up here in Canada - I guess having Thanksgiving in October has its perks! Though, I'm pretty sure its in the shops year round.

That's where I've seen it, too. Roasting pumpkins though... hmmmmm... I may have to consider that. We have a deep freezer, too. Just waiting to be filled up something!

I didn't even know there was a shortage. I puree and freeze my own. I do think it's better than the canned version and up until this year, much cheaper. I'll have to buy some pumpkins to do my own this year or just get canned.

I bought 2 cans on monday when I found some at the grocery store for the first time Now I'm just waiting for either a: the heat wave (was nearly 90 here today!!) to end or b: our geothermal air conditioner/heater to be finished so I can make pumpkin cookies/pie/muffins/etc w/o making the house a freaking oven!! If I see it at the dollar store or aldi's I'm totally buying like 2 cases... I am *SO* not going w/o pumpkin again this year!!!

Oh, and you usually *can* find it year round, but last year was apparently a really bad year for pumpkins and there was none to be had from like jan till now. It sucked. Really, really, really bad.

Here is an article about the pumpkin shortage!

My mom had good luck at Wegman's today. They had the organic brand, store brand, and Libby's. One store was limiting customers to 4 cans each, but another was not. I've read several articles this week that said pumpkin should be arriving shortly and the shortage ending:

I'm going to try and order a few cases through our buying club next month just to be safe!
