Teething pain relief

Thread Starter
Hi there, I have no doubt that this has already been discussed somewhere on the site, but I'm having troubles finding the thread. My 4 1/2 mo. old is starting to teethe and she seems to be in such pain. She has been letting out bloodcurdling shrieks for the past couple days, sleeping poorly, sucking her upper lip, rubbing her gums with her fingers, and chewing on everything in sight. She seems to be in a lot of pain and I was wondering if anyone has found some methods that have brought relief to their teething child(ren).

I seem to remember someone once mentioning that she was low in calcium while her dd was teething, and as soon as she started supplementing with calcium her dd's teething pains went away. It was awhile ago, so I don't know if I'm remembering correctly. Has anyone else heard this?

Thanks
Anne

We use Hyland's teething gel, it's the same as the tabs but in gel format, which was easier for my daughter. We also do breastmilk cubes in the mesh feeder, which she loves.

I've been using the little teethers tablets. The ingredients are:
Belladonna 3x HPUS (0.003% Alkaloids), Calcarea Phosphorica 3x HPUS, Chamomilla 3x HPUS, Coffea Cruda 3x HPUS
I've been tempted to buy the gel with benzocaine but I'm still holding off.. Something just doesn't sit right with me with using it..

Yeah, to clarify, the Hyland's teething gel has the exact ingredients that beautifulnm listed, it's the same as the tablets. The gel with the benzocaine is Baby Orajel and I tried a taste of it at my friend's house and it tastes HORRIBLE. I won't buy it unless we end up in sheer teething hell and I have nothing left to try.

try gumomile oil (sp?)

i've also tried the hyland's gel, and it seems to help. also ice wrapped in a blanket.

if my LO was having a hard time sleeping, i'd consider tylenol and/or orajel -- seems like some babies just struggle more than others.

We haven't been there yet, but I will try the Hyland's tablets first. If the pain is really intense and he's up screaming at night, I wouldn't hesitate to give him baby tylenol or ibuprofin. Normally I try to avoid using those, but I think it's kind of unfair to make a baby suffer like that when there are pain relievers available and the natural stuff isn't helping. And I honestly doubt they'll cause any harm.
