Custom Hospital Gowns

anyone ever have one of these made?
was it silly or cute and nice?

I give birth in the hospital but try to leave same day (did last time, hope to again) but the hospital gowns are gross. I bought cute PJs the first time to wear instead and I bled too much and they needed to be changed immediately.
A gown is definitely better for me with room for chux, ice, etc right after but that I can nurse in.

I've seen some really pretty ones....and the pics of me an hour or so after my last son's birth show me wearing this schnattie hospital gown...i thought since this is our last, I might step it up a notch.

Just wondering if it's a dumb idea.

I dunno about having one made-- I was in my own clothes ASAP after I woke up after my section.

I did by a brand new super comfy and cute robe. It was great, I wore it through out my stay, and someone (probably my mom to avoid anyone seeing cleavage) sort of draped it over me for my post section pics that were taken so soon that I was not fully awake yet. I don't remember what happened to the gown... but it was so bloody I can't imagine having a custom one made.

I saw some of these on Etsy and thought they were really cute, but super spendy.

Im debating making myself something if I end up giving birth in a hospital. Im really modest and the hospital gowns aren't. Something nice that covers the behind and is easy to nurse in without having to take half of it off.

Those are some of the ones I saw!

I wonder though if there is resale value to them?
As long as they are not stained...

They look easy to make. Maybe.

I much prefer to bleed on free things rather than things I have to pay for, but if you do get some, make sure they are the same style they use in the hospital so they can't whine about something not being right, kwim?

I think the only requirements are that they can get to your back and that you can nurse.

What I've always done is bring an old nightgown of mine to labor and birth in, and some more for the days after. I buy the kind that button down the front so I can nurse. I got two drops of blood on one nightgown, and only one was pure ruined by the blood (but that's because I was standing up as baby crowned and the nurses had to pick me up and lay me on the bed to deliver and they didn't think to get the nightgown up from under my backside!).

I love being comfortable. Those paper nightgowns at the hospital are a JOKE!

But also, you could get an easy pattern and make one. I've done that, too. But I find knit to be the most comfortable fabric, and it's hard to find nice knit for that kind of a garment.

I bought a tank nightie at Target for like $10 for my hospital birth. I just shoved it up when they needed access to my belly, and flung it right up to my neck to have skin to skin when DD was born, and to nurse. Or pulled it down and pulled a boob out of the neck, to nurse. It was stretchy ribbed cotton, black-- some threads are coming out but I'm planning on using it again, good vibes from a great first birth will be nice to have again, right? Now, I had an awesome super natural friendly OB and the nurses he likes to work with, so they gave me the gown when I got there but I just stayed in that, took off my sweats only. No one said boo to me. My friend loves to tell how she vomited all over the gown they gave her! and spent the birth naked. I got cold because I birthed like a cat, curled up and still and zoned out, practically napping DH says. Took me forever to get the word "cold" out so my doula would get me a blanket
