6 months old too young for a sippy cup?

I can't remember when we started DS1 on a sippy cup. But is 6 months - almost 7 months - too young?

Nah. He may not know what to do with it, but it's a great way to learn. I gave dd a sippy at that age.

Nope, it's not too young. 6 mos. isn't even too young for a small open cup. We used shot glasses with great success.

We gave one to DS about that age so he could feel included at dinner (and those baby spoons with the soft "spoon" part)

I use the take & toss plastic cups without a lid. Sashi loves them and does good drinking from them. He doesn't know what to do with a sippy.. but like PP said, good to introduce now..

Thanks, mamas! We have a couple of Nuby and Avent trainers at home. I'll give it a shot tonight.

I give my 5 month old a cup partially filled with water to play with. She can't really suck anything out of it yet, but she sure loves playing with it. It has two handles so it's easy for her to hold.

I introduced a sippy around that age for my DD...and at 8 months she still doesn't know how to drink from it...she prefers drinking from an open glass.....we'll see if she gets it anytime soon.......

I started DS with an Avent sippy. At first, I left the silicone disc out so the liquid would just run out into his mouth.

DD has been using a regular cup and sippy cup cince 4 months.
It depends on the babe. If they are curious, let them try it out.

same as above poster Margaret been using an open cup (with our help) and a sippy since she was around 4 months.. She is 6. now and does just fine though shes still doesn't get to angle the cup up..
