Are these prefolds salvageable?

My previous child was not cloth diapered until starting around 7 months. When he was teeny tiny, I had a bunch of prefolds that I used as burp cloths. I washed these all the time in Dreft, which I know is totally bad for cloth diapers (I didn't know this at the time). Anyway... are these diapers salvageable? Can I just strip them once and have them be good to use for cloth diapering, or am I better off just buying new ones?

Thanks!

boil them, or otherwise strip depending what they are made of.
prefolds are pretty hard to wreck, imo.

I Totally Agree

Prefold wash really well. I can't imagine they're wrecked. I'd strip them once and see how they are... you might need to do more, you might now.

When we get hand-me-down clothing it's always loaded with heavy detergents and fabric softener, and I can always get it out of the 100% cotton clothes eventually.

Check out the other thread about gerber prefolds. Depending on what kind of prefolds your burp cloths are, you might want to buy new ones. I think they are salvageable, but even at their best, not all prefolds are terrific as diapers.

I hope this is not totally out of line, but I have 2 dozen prefolds (infant sized) which I am selling. Barely used. PM me if you want.

Thanks for the info. And yes, they are gerber prefolds, so I think I'm planning on just buying new prefolds and keeping the old ones as burp cloths. (I didn't know gerber diapers were awful until reading more on this site.)

Look at Diaper Rite and Green Mountain Diapers prefolds. IMO those two are the best!
