What do you hope to gain from this clinic evaluation...

This is asked on the questionnaire send by the developmental ped clinic. I'm not sure what to say other that I'd like a more in depth examination than provided by the bullet list I provided to the family doctor and the relatively brief behavioral observation by his psychiatrist and OT?

I say something like "I hope to gain better insight into my child and his unique needs so I am more equipped to parent him to be his best."

Sounds corny, but the question is kind of corny!

I had a genetics nurse once ask me "do you know why you're here?" Um, because my kid looks funny and something is wrong with him and you're the one that's supposed to tell me what it is? It was kind of an odd question, especially since Connor really did look strange as an infant, but I didn't know if I should say that outloud, you know?!

It's a pretty standard question - it's fine to say you want a more in depth evaluation. Sometimes people put the main reason they are concerned or need help - like wanting to find out how your child learns, or if any changes in school are needed, or just how best to parent them.

Thanks, that helps.

For me, right now, I would write something like, "Direction on what treatments to pursue," although what I would really want to write, is, "Help not going completely insane while trying to parent these kids." That's probably not very helpful though. I hope you get what you are looking for!
