Sitting up in her sleep?

So DD just woke up crying about an hour after being put down. And I got up, a little depressed that she'd only managed an hour, to find her sitting up in her crib and rubbing her eyes. I fished around for the paci, popped it in, and she LAY BACK DOWN on her own and promptly fell back to sleep.

????

I mean, I'm very happy that I didn't have to nurse, rock, pat, shush, and whatnot for an hour, but I'm a little confused. Did she sit up in her sleep? Is her brain in overdrive from all the pulling up and standing she's been doing? And how does the paci give her "permission" to lie back down and go to sleep?

I'm really curious... any ideas? Or is it just one of those things?

My almost 16 mo old DS sits up during the night too and sometimes he plops back down and re-settles himself to sleep and other times, he cries out for me and won't go back to sleep without nursing. He's done that for months now.
