My 16month old son has a bad latch, only on my right breast. My right breast is constantly getting plugged ducts. Usually I can work them out without much of a problem. This time around it isn't budging, I think it's been around for 4 days, I'm not sure. I tried to just make him nurse a lot on that side, but then I noticed my nipple was really sore. It's getting worse and worse. It feels like he is chewing on my nipple! When I unlatch him, my nipple is sticking out all the way to the right. It almost looks like the tip of my nipple is rubbing on the roof of his mouth. It hurts the most when he swallows. It doesn't matter what position he is in to nurse. At first I thought his latch wasn't good because one part of my areola was rock hard, from the plugged duct. The duct is slowly draining, and my areola is getting softer, but his latch is still crappy. How do you correct a toddler's improper latch? What do I do to fix this? My son still nurses frquently, otherwise at this point I would consider weaning.
