Food After Birth

What foods do you find most helpful with a brand new baby schedule?
If someone offered to cook and/or bring you lunch/dinner or a few groceries to help make your life a little easier during this time, what would you ask for?

I was all about canned soup and cereal when I was on my own. not the healthiest, but it was easy. When people came over I was open to anything they'd bring. I'd love some hot rolls and a casserole this time though. Anything that will reheat well was a bonus.

Soup! My teeth were feeling pretty loose after birth so I ddn't like to eat things that you have to bite into like sandwich. Soups were so comforting!

Casseroles were definitely my favorite to get because we'd get more than one meal out of them...

If they offer to cook, anything you can get leftovers from.

If they offer to grocery shop... soup, stew or chili! OMG. So easy to make (especially in a crock pot) and lots of leftovers.

DH will be the one shopping/cooking for the first 10 days of Maes life though so we will be basically sticking to our regular schedule with me reciting my memorized recipes to him.

I wouldn't have cared as long as there was a lot of it. I could not believe how starving I was when I nursed my first.

I haven't btdt but we are putting up quart size mason jars of soups for our February arrival. I figure soup in a mug is an easy meal while nursing or fancied up in a bowl with a sandwich if time and energy allows.

Absolutely!

I think I had some kind of PICA because the only thing I ate for the first month or so was roasted chicken, white rice and ginger/garlic string beans. So, I suggest that. ;-)

Me too! I swear I could have eaten an entire carton's worth of scrambled eggs in a sitting (!) those first few days after giving birth.

To have on hand though I made dozens & dozens of muffins & homemade cookies to keep in the freezer which were a lifesaver as you could eat them one handed while nursing.

I also loved any kind of casserole, quiche, lasagne, chili & soup as they were all nice & easy to prepare.
If someone is willing to do the shopping for you try getting them to pick up one of those pre-cut fruit or veg trays that you can keep on hand. You're more likely to eat healthy when there is zero prep involved.
