question about quoting

when you quote a block of text there is a little arrow next to the user name that says "go to post"
so is this a new feature, or just something I've never noticed?

It's actually been there for awhile. But if we don't use the Quote button inside posts (using code instead) or edit a bit too much and only leave [ QUOTE=MadiMamacita ] at the beginning of a quote versus [ QUOTE=MadiMamacita;15873413 ] it won't place the Go To button in the quote. The numbers (those there are the ones for this post of yours) tell the software which post you are quoting.
