Babies who didn't like solids at 6 months?

My DS is a week shy of 6 months. The other day, we let him have a whole banana... the next day, some applesauce. Both were met by the same reaction -- confusion, yuck-o face, and a break-down into tears. Not at all what I expected or experienced with DD!

I'm slightly worried he might have texture/food issues (because he has a posterior tongue tie). So, to reassure me, tell me stories of your perfectly normal LOs who hated solids at 6 months.... but grew to love them!

6 months is very young. some babies take to solids right away, plenty need a lot more time... it's not like there's a switch that goes off at the 6 month birthday that suddenly makes babies ready and interested in solids.

i would take a break for a few days, then come back with some new offerings. my 7 month old still isn't very interested in solids, but she definitely is NOT into banana OR applesauce. she hates both. she does have a deep abiding love for melon, nectarine and sweet potato though. she's also very interested in well-spiced foods like curried lentils, and kale with garlic sauce.

Morgan didn't really eat solids until 7 or 8 months and even then not a lot (like a 1/3 of a small jar when we did purees) until much closer to a year. She eats fine now :-)

Ds didn't have any interest in foods until 8 months, then it was solid pieces and I was able to back track to some purees

I think with him it was about being able to do it himself. As long as your BF it'll be fine. Ds is 24-25lbs and 11 months. holding off didn't hurt him

I've known kids well over one, closer to two even, who finally got interested in solids. I don't think it's a big deal. If Sprout still doesn't like them in a few months, you could see if you could get him evaluated for a sensory disorder, but honestly, it seems early to me. I wouldn't personally do that 'til over one.

This is sort of the reverse issue, but.. Both of my children have been extremely tongue-tied (in fact me and all my siblings too) and they both ate solid foods just fine. From my personal experience tongue-tie does not lead to textural issues.

Besides, 6mo is WAY too early to be worried about such a thing. Many, many, many babies aren't ready to eat solids until 12mo+. If your LO still isn't eating well after a year, then MAYBE there's an issue. Good luck!

6 months is the earliest babies are supposed to start consuming solids. We did BLW with Liam, and while he would play with the food and maybe take a lick/bite here and there, he didn't really starte EATING until closer to 14 months old. He preffered the "liquid diet" of breastmilk to solids. Then it was like he discovered food, and from 14 months on couldn't get enough. He has since been a FANTASTIC eater, will eat just about anything, and is always asking for food.

My DD didn't like her first foods very much. If we did 50% breastmilk and 50% puree, then maybe. She was well into her 9th month before she really got interested in food of any kind.

It's so early! We let DD gum an apple I was eating, play with food, etc, but she didn't really want to EAT for a few more months, and she had/has no problems. She wasn't eating a LOT every day until she was at least a year, too.

My first baby loved food right away, starting at six months. My second was offended by it and really didn't start eating everyday until he was 12 months. My third really got into eating at about 10 months, but was picky at that time. All three are now good eaters and not picky or allergic to anything. Definitely respect their ques, babies can be very in tuned with their bodies.

As long as he's growing fine I wouldn't worry. My DS didn't care AT ALL about solids until close to 9 months. Now he won't stop eating

Well mine hasn't grown out of it yet so i don't have a happy ending but she just turned 7 months a few days ago and thinks food is disgusting!! The only thing i have ever been able to get her to show any interest in is a teething biscuit and a slice of apple both of which she sucked on for a little while. But that isn't saying much since she will suck on anything that comes near her face. She wont let us spoon feed her for sure. She just wants to chew the spoon. From what i have been told things can change pretty fast with food though so I'd say wait 2 weeks or so and try again and wait and try again until he seems more receptive.
