First of all,
s to you. Dealing with DCFS is a huge pain. My family dealt with DCFS in and out of our house the whole time I was growing up. My brother is developed mentally delayed child and my mother has a short temper, so between the two DCFS was at our door nearly once a week. The only real advice I have for dealing with them is to be firm, but not condescending and defensive. The worker does not get to make the final judgement. You can appeal it, and you can talk to Dr. about the fact that he said it wasnt a big deal. Make sure you document everything whenever a worker calls or comes to your house. If it was me, Id probably call every channel I could at DCFS to try and get a new worker, because she is already biased against your case.
I want to let you know that you dont have to use the ped Medicaid appoints to you. You can change the ped at anytime, it takes a month for Medicaid to process the change, so you will have to keep using him for a month. If I were you, Id start interviewing new peds in your area ASAP. Finding a good ped who is on board with you and the way you have decided to raise your kid is super important. I found a really good ped that I love that is 35 miles from my house, and Medicaid pays for her.
Im so sorry you are having to deal with this. I know there was no medical neglect, jeeze, I wouldnt flinch at 99 degrees.

Contact EVERYONE you came in contact with. The nurse at the lab, the nurse you called, your doctor, etc... Get everyone to put in writing what they observed. The lab nurse saw you come in and follow directions (and she saw you son). Your own doctor said it wasn't an immediate concern because he was acting fine. Get everything in writing. Write a statement yourself. (And, to show when it was written you can mail yourself a copy and not open it...it will have the postmark on it to validate the date and show you're sticking to your story)
Can you contact a lawyer? Some will give advice for free (especially if you mention you're low on funds) Heck, if there's a law school close you might see if a student in their last year will do it for a project or something.

Ugh..I spoke too soon with my advice to you. Now Im in a situation where my doctor is telling me that if I dont comply with what the neuorlogical department at childrens hospital wants to do (sedate my kid and not allow me to nurse for 10 hours) CPS will be up my ass, and its possible that I could be charged with medical neglect. Thank you so much for posting this, if you hadnt I would have fought this procedure tooth and nail. I still dont agree with it, but your story puts it into perspective for me, and I really appreciate that.
