Would you let your baby crawl around on a hotel floor? - Page 2

I personally would try and get out of the hotel for the day but to me it has nothing to do with germs or nasties it's about the things that get missed by vaccuums and housekeeping on the floors that I worry about
(missed pills, coins, paperclips, sewing needles blah blah)
But then again I've heard horror stories of babies being rushed to the ER because they ate an unidentified pill off a hotel floor. Just my two cents

We just got back from N.O. last weekend. They have a wonderful zoo, aquarium, insectarium, IMAX theater, children's museum ... or just get out and walk down the riverwalk. Most of the restaurants are way over-priced, tourist traps. Beware! We stayed at the Riverside Hilton, got a great deal from hotels.com. The carpet wasn't too bad, but it was a dark color, so couldn't be sure.

Yup, I would... but then again, I let ds1 crawl around pretty much anywhere - outside, mcdonalds play places, the mall, wherever. I'm just very, very, very far from a germaphonbe

I would. I also second exploring the city instead of staying in the room. There are many, many fun baby friendly things to do there. Walk the french quarter, french market, riverwalk, aquarium, the zoo is not in walking distance from those places, but I know they used to have some sort of ferry that went from aquarium to zoo. If you decide to go, have fun!

I wouldn't even think twice about it! lol. I let my DS crawl on store floors, airport floors, lawns/dirt, playgrounds etc. I don't believe in keeping them in a sterile world- certainly as harmful to their immune system as anything else you can do. It would be like never working out but expecting to run a marathon with ease. i am all for letting them explore

This. Germs are good!

I would just be really careful to look over the hotel room first. With DD1 I took a trip to see family and didn't really do a walk through.. Housekeeping I guess wasn't the best and left an open bottle of antihistimine on the floor. Luckily I was right there and got all the pills away before she got any into her mouth. Now i do a good walkthrough and check under furniture and behind it as well as in drawers before allowing the kids loose.

I guess I'm the resident germophobe. lol

I brought a blanket and when DS crawled off I just watched that he didn't put his hands in his mouth until I washed them.

I didn't let my baby crawl around on public surfaces. I just thought about whether or not I would want to have MY hands on a certain floor and then directly in my mouth. If the answer was no for me, it was no for my baby. This does not mean grass or nature- but bathrooms, public floors in like an airport or hotel, yuck. No thanks.

Oh, as much as I'm very free-range about germs, please DO check the room out before you release the baby; recently a 4-year-old contracted herpes from chewing on a used condom that was left in a hotel room.

This is how I feel.
I'm not afraid of her getting a cold, but I am afraid of strange nasties getting on her and in her mouth.
I certainly would not put my hands or bare feet on a hotel/bathroom/airport floor, so it's a no go for DD too.
