Peanut Butter

My 2 year old is an extremely picky eater and is very thin (37in and 28lbs). One of the only foods she loves is peanut butter on a spoon…..we gladly give it to her because it is so high calories. When she doesn’t eat much for dinner, we give her unlimited access to peanut butter. Anyways, we give her Skippy or Jif but I would love to move her to organic peanut butter because she does eat so much of it. The only issue is though, that she won’t eat the peanut butter that separates with the oil on top and all the organic peanut butter that I have seen is like that. Does anyone know of any brand of organic peanut butter that doesn’t separate and has a Skippy-like texture? Is that even possible?

Thanks in advance for your help!

The Whole Foods 365 brand makes a "no-stir" peanut butter that is just like Skippy, but without hydrogenated oils, and much less sugar. It still has some sugar, so the kid appeal is there, but it's way better for you than the hydrogenated stuff. I buy it for DH b/c he also refuses the separated natural peanut butters.

I would try the Maranatha one...I thought at first that even though it said no-stir, it still separated, but it really is only at the very top that you see the oil. Once you're good into the jar, it may still be a bit more oily than you may be used to with Jif, etc., but I don't think terribly.

This is the one we use at home.

Peanut Butter Co. (http://ilovepeanutbutter.com/) has Skippy-like texture. I don't think it's organic but it doesn't have the hydrogenated oils or refined sugars in it. They have tons of flavors too (in addition to the plain PB).

Thanks ladies! I will give all of those a try!

Can't you just stir it together while she's not looking? I also heard you can dump the whole jar into the food processor and whiz it up - it will take a while to separate again.

The other option is to pour the oil off but you might not want to do that if you're tyring to up cals.

skippy does make a natural peanut butter without hydrogenated oils in it, if you have a hard time finding the others

It's not organic, but Smart Balance makes a nice peanut butter with omega-3s, no hydrogenated oils, etc.

We use Skippy Natural. DS is big on peanut butter too. He's 36.5 inches 27lbs. He also will eat cottage cheese, yogurt, and cheese for fat. It's hard though.

I am so relieved to see there are other kids out there who seem to only eat PB... I swear, DS would be happy to eat a "peanut butter honey round bread" sandwich for every meal...

Smuckers. Not organic. No sugar, no hydrogenated oils. Just looked at our bottle, didn't see any oil separation. We buy it at Walmart.
