Speaking up - Page 2

post #21 of 28
Why is the 'everyone else does' argument only valid when it comes to cutting baby boys?

How many times did I hear my mother say "if all your friends jumped off a bridge - would you?"

Why is is not OK to follow the crowd unless it has to do with genital modification?

Does your husband know that nationally, the circ rate has fallen to 1/3? Does the husband want to risk his son being the only one in the locker room cut? Does he get that if he's wrong, there's no going back, but if you're wrong, and his son wants to be cut, that's a possibility -- and the wound won't be sitting around in a fouled diaper?

I'm in Atlanta and there are plenty of intact boys in my son's age range (he's 5 now). It has always been a complete non issue.

The rate in CA is VERY low...one of the lowest rates of circ in the nation. I think it's around 33% circed? In my area (Nevada City, CA), I know many many little boy kids and babies and only one of them is circed.

Also, if your friend's husband is the one wanting to circ, you might pass on this link to her: http://www.udonet.com/circumcision/v...ty_of_men.html Just to help her understand some of the possible underlying issues might be.

I just wanted to let everyone know that they decided NOT to circ!

Apparently our other friend dropped off a bunch of anti-circ info, too, and I think she just really didn't want to do it and just needed to hear that it was normal, and have some info to share with her hubby that was undeniable. She is really happy we shared with her. And I got to see her son for the first time and he is a little cutie! I'm so, so glad I don't have to be sad about him, and so happy for him, and his parents!

{big sigh of relief}

This is wonderful news. I hope it also strengthens your resolve to speak up whenever you sense that it might make a difference in a child's and his family's lives. Always trust your intuition.
