silks over light - fire hazard?

just curious. I've seen it done a lot and we have these lights that are on the wall basically a light bulb with glass around it, like thick glass, im sure there is a name for it and we drape silk over it to soften the light. Have been doing this for a long time and never had any problems, dont sleep with lights on or anything like that...

but I was just curious how other waldorf people do this? I've seen it done a lot in waldorf schools but I dont remember exactly how it was done to avoid fire hazard or if silk would even burn

I drape silks over some of our lamps in the house...I only do it over the ones with the energy star bulbs that don't heat up.

i have draped silk over strings of indoor/outdoor lighting or christmas tree lights, which do not heat up.

if you are using CFL (which you should be anyway) then there is very little risk of heating up to the point of causing a fire. If you are using halogen or an incandescent bulb, they can get rather hot.
