potty training-- weird question

my almost 3 year old shows all the sign for readiness of potty training except one thing. she doesnt want to go on the potty seat... only in a diaper. she will wear regular underwear and all, but then tell me when she needs to go pee/poop and will cry/protest until i put her diaper back on.

she is a pretty feisty one and ive tried all the tricks, rewards, and encouragement to get her to want to sit on the potty.. but she refuses.

should i keep her in the underwear and let her go in the diaper while keep encouraging her to use the potty? or should i just keep her in the diaper until she is fully ready for real potty time?

I think the fact that she is TELLING you when its time to go is a HUGE acomplishment. I wouldnt deter from that by outting her back in diapers. If she consistantly asks for a diaper when its time to go, then I would indulge to keep her interested in NOT going in her underwere.

Im actually kind of jealous. My 3 year old is peeing very regularly on the potty, but I cannot get him to even tell me when its time to poop, or pee for that matter. He will hold it, and every hour or two I say, ok, lets go potty. I get protests, but he goes. I wish he would atleast acknowledge the urge. I feel that would be a huge step for him if he could do that.

what would happen if you ran out of diapers one day? I mean let her see the empty diaper package? Something to the effect.. Oh no we are out of diapers..can you pee on the potty till we go to the store and get more?

barbie-- that is true. i am very thankful she is letting me know when it is time. i feel like she is never going to sit on the seat, but of course that's silly.

jbaxter, i REALLY want to try that method. ive been nervous about it only b/c when we are out and about, i know she might have an accident and i want to have a diaper just in case. ive heard of the cloth training pants, i wonder if she would take to those..?

Im actually thinking of trying cold turkey this weekend, putting him in underpants, letting him poop and/or pee his pants a couple times, to see if it has any kind of effect on him. My gut instincts tell me he wont give a hoot, but its pretty much the only think i havent tried. (is there a smilie for plugging your nose and diving in head first? )

I did the cold tukey/ boot camp with my older 3. I have an almost 2 yr old naked in my livng room right now in potty orientation phase

Tell her.. ( worked for me any way) We are not going to buy more diapers after this bag. We have "X" left -- count them. I did tie it to a treat.. Wow since mommy doesnt have to do diapers anymore we have money to stop and get "X" A soft serve ice cream the twist kind was our treat for DS3.

Now I DID magically find a pullup/diaper for nights for a long time.

I did play a non vent week for our "loosing" of the diapers time.

There will be accidents I just carried a zip lock bag w/ extra clothes. That way I would have something to put wet things in. Luckily mine were fascinated with public restrooms but we carried a potty in the car anyway.
