My Nana is a wonderful 75 year old woman. She's originally from England, but she came to the US to take care of me when I was around 6-7 and has been in the US since then.

Yesterday, we got into a conversation about birth.

Nana: "I was so green. I mean when I think back to it... I knew nothing! Yesterday Cali was looking through a medical book about birth and I was thinking to myself... At age 11 this child knows more about the birth process than I did at age 25 when I was having my 1st child! Did you know that some women get a dark line down their tummies?" (Cali is my little sister)

Me: "Yes, that is called linea nigra. I have it."

Nana: "Oh yes, well I did too and when I went to the hospital to give birth... I thought that's how the baby came out! I thought perhapse that somehow that would just rip apart and out the baby would come!"

Me: "Oh that's funny!"

Nana: "Well yes it is funny now, but why do you think I was adament about putting on the gas mask! I really didn't want to know what was going to happen! I just wanted to pretend that it wasn't happening!" (Gas and Air- common pain relief at the time... I think its still used today)

Me: "I understand that! I'd probably want to be drugged too if I thought my stomach was going to split open like in the movie Alien!!!"

Nana: "What movie?"

Me: "Ha! Never mind...."

Then we talked some more and laughed about the difference from then and now. It was an awesome conversation. I love my Nana!
