silikids glass w/silicone sleeve - anyone use this?

has anyone used the silikids glass?

i want to start my 20-month-olds with a regular cup, and like the idea of this... but i have the nagging feeling in my head that they would drop it and there would be a billion shards of glass everywhere. does the sleeve really protect the glass fairly well, anyone try it? or can you recommend something else that might be interesting?

I don't think it's necessary. DD has been using glass cups from 5 months (due to my low supply) with help, and independently from about a year. We haven't broken one yet. We supervise her with them, although lately, I've been putting her cup with water in it on a low table so she can help herself. We still use a re-useable drink box for water on the go.

What a pretty glass though! If I were you, I might go ahead and *need* it just so I could have one!

DS doesn't use cups, but broke one just this morning (I set it too close to the edge of the table). We use stainless steel cups for him. That's also what we had growing, and they are indestructible.

I don't have this particular glass, but Micah has been drinking out of a glass cup for quite some time. I really like the idea of this and would have totally bought it when he was first learning. I think a bigger key to this cup is that it helps the child to have traction on the glass so it is less likely to slip. I often (especially in the beginning) encourage two hands to the glass, which will also help prevent dropping. I also keep an eye on him when he is going to set it down to make sure he is setting it on a level area. As far as just spilling liquid, in the beginning we did an ounce or two at a time.
