If your child has scouts meetings after school....

...is she/he allowed to wear the scouting uniform to school that day?

My dd is in Brownies, the meetings are right after school, and the principal is refusing to allow the girls to wear their sash or vest OVER the school uniform. I'm wondering how other schools do things.

Our school has a uniform and they would not allow that either.

His old school had no uniform and I don't imagine it would have been a problem unless the sash was causing a disturbance of some sort.

Our school has a uniform and they do let the boy scouts wear theirs from time to time. I've never seen any of the Brownies in uniform, so I assume they don't wear theirs (it's a small group for Brownies/Girl Scouts at our school.)

Growing up attending a very strict private school, scouts were allowed to wear their uniforms to school. That was pretty much the only exception to the dress code until one got to high school and certain Varsity athletes (like field hockey) could wear their uniforms on game day.

(I led such a warped life that I wore a uniform not only during the school year through college, but even a few years at summer camp. It's amazing I can dress myself. )

No, if the school has a uniform policy then usually there are no accomodations for scouts/other outside clubs to that policy. If they allows for scouts, then someone will want for soccer etc...

Really how hard is it to slip on the sash after school?? Stick the sash in her bag in the am and take it out for the meeting. Scouts is not a school function.

Strict uniform policy here at dd's private school and YES, they are allowed to wear their GS vests on meeting days.

Our Brownies just slip on their vests after school at the beginning of the meeting. They would not be allowed to wear them over their uniform. DD wouldn't want to -- it gets in the way all the time because its always falling off her shoulder.
