Girl Scouts question?

Mods: Feel free to move if need be.

Has anyone ever registered their daughter an a girl scout INDIVIDUALLY? I'm told them you have the option of participating in events, but are NOT part of a troop.

Here all our troops are through public schools or churches, neither of which I'm comfortable with for a variety of reasons. This was presented as an option at our local HS summer conference but it's new and no one seems to know anything about it.

DD is in K, and I'm considering putting her in as a Daisy. We'll follow and earn the patches at home just as if she were in a troop, etc. They also do really cool science/math events for GS here that are one-day events I'd like her to be able to participate in.

i opted out of traditional scouts and started a spiral scouts group instead.

BUT a local homeschooling mom started a girl scout HSers troop. All the benefits of a troop but without the public / church issues. would this be possible in your area?

A girl can join individually through her council. This is often called being a "Juliette."

Here is a link to answers about Girl Scouting. Scroll down to membership:

You can do scouts as a Juliette, but I would really encourage a Daisy level scout to have a troop. Find girls that you know from other areas of life and create your own troop. So much of our experience really relies on the "group" aspect. I can see Juliettes being a great way to go once you are older (Cadettes and upwards).

Both of my girls are registered as Juliettes. Our council has a calendar on their web site that lists many "open" events. However, there is also a liason person in charge of letting us know about "open" events by e-mail or phone. She hasn't been very good about getting in contact with us, however, even after I called her and reminded her that we were out there... YMMV.

Breathless wonder--I love seeing your baby countdown going to 42 weeks! That was the normal in our house.

We're not doing a troop for a variety of health reasons - I have a suppressed immune system and DD has multiple severe food allergies. So Juliettes is pretty much our only option right now it seems
