Help with resources

My homeopathic doc has convinced Dh that DS needs DTaP. When I expressed my concerns his main answer is that "most children are given shots in the thigh and that causes a toxic reaction in the muscle where are giving the shot in the butt wont"???

He says I need to trust him and in 30 years he's never had a reaction to any shots because of doing this. He gives shots not nurses.

I really like him, he thinks the only shots a child needs unless in daycare are DTaP after 1 year and MMR sometime in the second year. He doesn't push anything else unless he see a 'calculated risk' Like daycare or living in a large extended family.

He has Dh convinced and I'm on the fence. I haven't done any since two shots at 2 month visit. I am concerned because I am expecting in Feb...but really?

Please help with clear info with resources I can give Dh and Doc. anything I have said to him 'factual' he sees as opinion because I can't recall all my sources.

huh? How would the butt vs. thigh fix it? You're still injecting toxins...

I'm confused.

Have you asked *him* for resources on that? B/c his point sounds like opinion, to me...

This sounds like compete woo to me. Toxins injected into the body are still toxins no matter what muscle they are injected into.

Has he never seen a reaction or has he (like so many other HCPs) never admitted to one?

Also, at this point, your DC is past the serious danger time line for pertussis. I'm not saying it might not be awful, but the big danger zone is under 6 months.

Keep in mind that since DTaP does not prevent infection or transmission, it will be of no use vaccinating this child to protect the new babe. You would just have a child who might be carrieng and transmitting the disease with you being completely unaware that they even have it. I think that might be a greater danger to a newborn than having an obviously sick child allowing you to take precautions with the newborn.
