nursing bra and nursing tank

Are they comparable? Can I simply purchase nursing tank and not nursing bra? I personally hate wearing a bra as I think that's too "restrictive." Plus I am only 26 weeks preggo, and i can't really purchase nursing bra yet as I don't know what my size will be...

I think a lot of it is a comfort issue. I have not found a comfortable nursing bra (hard to find a 34G+) so I use solely nursing tanks. DS is 6.5 months old and I've been able to nurse and pump with no problems using just tanks. I do get a uniboob look but don't really care because it's all about comfort and ability to pump for me.

I also only wear nursing tanks. I have some comfy bras, but honestly, I like the discretion and ease of use of the tank. I like that any shirt can be a modest nursing shirt with use of the tank. I pump at work and I share an office with another NP. I don't mind her coming in while I pump when I have the tank to cover the belly flab and my top shirt to cover the flanges.
I also get the uniboob look, but I'm not worried about it.

Good to know. Thanks Mamas. I gotta go start looking at more tanks then.

I preferred bras at the beginning because my boobs were tender and I felt bra was more supportve & protective than tanks (individual cradling & padding). After a couple of months, mostly wore nursing tanks because they are more comfy and convenient. So I would get at least one each but wait until you are almost term or just after birth. Don't buy too many because your size and preference may change. Wait another 1-2 months and then go shopping again.

I personally mainly used just tanks. However, once DS started sleeping longer stretches, I was constantly very sore at night, so this time I am investing in a few overnight bras, at least.

Bit OT, but I lurve the bras you can find on Figleaves.com, esp the Royce Jasmine nursing bra - great for big boobs! http://www.figleaves.com/us/product....=&colour=White. Was sort of a pain to figure out what size I needed (had to order extras and return) but totally worth it!
