"How do you know how far along you are if you haven't had an ultrasound?" - Page 3

I was hunting for HCP's at about 24 weeks during my last pg. When I went to see the ONE midwife in town my HMO would cover, the nurse handed me a urine specimen cup and said, "we'll need you to give a specimen for a pg test." I blinked at him and said, "ummm, you have all my prenatal medical records up to now in your hand. Why do you need a pg test?" And he said, "well, otherwise how can we be sure you're pregnant?" I gestured at my large belly and said, "Because I just got kicked in the ribs!" He replied, "well, for all I know, you could be lying. Maybe you're just fat."

Yeah, the MW wasn't much better than her nurse. I never went back to that office... paid cash to a HB MW instead. Worth Every Penny.

Anyone with some medical training should be able to feel the fundus by 24 weeks. Assuming things are pretty normal and you're only having one you can confirm pregnancy with two hands, a measuring tape that uses centimeters, and a stethescope or doppler. Heck an 8 year old could probably do it with just the doppler!

I have morning sickness. Aside from the positive pregnancy test I took at home, all those are pretty good indicators. and then "what if something goes wrong?" comes next. Like have the bloodwork and us will prevent me from having a mc or something.
And I didn't schedule my first mw appt this time around until about 20 weeks. But I was still pretty sure I was pg.
