Helping a grieving family with meals, what to make?

A family at DS's preschool suffered a terrible loss this week. In an effort to do what we can to help, a list has been organized to sign up to bring meals to the family. I'm totally drawing a blank on what to make. Any suggestions? It is for a mom, dad and 4yo.

Comfort food that they can freeze or cook right away: meatloaf, mac-n-chz, or cheesy potatoes.

a lady at dh's work was out with cancer and everyone signed up to make meals. i was so impressed dh made chicken pot pie (you could do just a veggie one too) and a lasagna. i thought those were great choices most people would like.

Comfort food is the best. Soup, salad and a loaf of bread, noodle casseroles, shepherd's pie, enchiladas.

When my dad died, we had someone send a ham (which was sweet, but not so useful with only one meat eater in a family of 4, a lot of pizzas (the best were the half-baked ones), and one dear friend brought over 2 shepherd's pies-one meat and one veggie.

I'll tell you not to send a noodle casserole. At times like this, that seems to be what everyone provides. It gets old fast.

I'd go more for a meal like enchiladas, refried beans, rice and a salad, myself. A complete meal w plenty of options for leftovers. Not much different than i'd do for pp meals, although w slightly different dietary considerations.

Comfort foods or something that can be frozen is a great suggestion. I've also done gift cards for local delis, sub shops, etc or a big bag filled with breakfast-friendly stuff/snack food, because sometimes dinners get covered but not other meals.

By noodle casserole, I was more meaning lasanga, baked ziti, Mac and cheese, baked ravioli or tortellini casserole ...

Thanks so much for the ideas. I love the thought of giving them some healthy snack foods to go along with dinner. I'm guessing some small things might be easier to get down right now. Maybe some fruit, cereal bars, bagels, stuff like that.

My favourite meal to bring is quiche (they can either eat it right away or freeze for later) and some muffins or biscuits for snacking on.
