hello all
we are a family constantly inspired by waldorf....we have all natural toys and we love them dearly. the only plastic in our house: the bath toys! and boy,I just noticed tonight-- there's a lot of them! Our DS is almost 14 month old and LOVES the bath!
what do you use in the bath for playtime? I am looking forward to your responses and suggestions!

dd has a few cloth finger puppets they are ladybug, bee and butterfly, pretty gentle colors. I dont remember the company but i think we got them at whole foods

a few washcloths that I knitted - they become blankets, cookies, all kinds of things

a wooden bowl

a few sea shells small and large

toothbrush

wooden spoons

and a few glass tincture bottles and little glass bottles with lids, but she is 3 and knows how to be gentle with them

I reall ylike cloth things that I can stick in the laundry often so they dont get moldy etc.

The wood stuff does get moldy after a long while and then we replace it. The bowl she has is made out of teak actually i think, so its been pretty resistant I got a set of 5 at goodwill and theyve been great for bath and for play area

I have strainers (found some small ones), seashells and a paintbrush and that is IT. Occasionally I will bring an enamel cup in for something different or a stainless steel bowl with ice in it...but those never stay in the bath.

i have a plastic yogurt bucket (we buy in volume, and it's a bucket!) that has shells, some other small bowls (again, recycled packaging), an old tooth brush and some cloths.

mostly he plays with the shells and bucket.

We have: (a lot of things most ppl mentioned but some others too )

Big rocks (so they don't swallow or go down drain)
Big shells (they use as "bowls")
Natural rubber duckies
an old fashioned mixer that is hand operated, the kids love to watch it make "bubbles" in the water
hand knit face clothes
wood paddle boats

Ooh, I love the handmixer idea. Actually, our bathtub toy basket is for all the plastic toys that I didn't want dd playing with on a regular basis so it is very un-Waldorf-inspired around here. We do have some Waldorf things in there like measuring cups, strainers, seashells. My dd's favorite thing is to mix soaps, so we have lots of old shampoos and shaving creams for her to make concoctions out of. She also loves animals so we have plastic animals and sponge animals and pony for washing its hair. We have a water wheel, a handpump, and a siphon. The siphon was a huge hit and she has gotten great play out of that. So, as I said, not the most Waldorfish bathtoys ever but it has been a handy place to dump unwanted plastic.

We have most of the same as already mentioned, as well as a few natural sponges. The biggest hit is when we put ds's enamel cookware and tea set in the tub with a few handfuls of WOOL BATTING! Wool soup and wool tea are always delicious and at the end of play we end up with all kinds of felted wool snakes, clouds, and various "scrubbies". I highly recommend.

eta: Another natural favorite is large pieces of cucumber peel (frog skin!). Fun to stick all over the tub walls, arms, bodies, etc. Good for the skin, too!

The only bath toys we have are a boat we got from Bella Luna toys that my boy loves to take the people in and out of, a natural latex duck that he barely plays with and a small yogurt cup he uses to pour water. We love running bubble baths and he just plays and plays with the bubbles. He only really plays with the boat when it's me in the bathtub. The boat doesn't tip and the people stay in until you take them out - it's a really quality USA-made boat.

Just another idea...
rubber bands for when they are a little older
my 13 month old loves wooden spoons, wash cloths and cups.

knitted wash cloths, coconut shells (they rock! we use them for washing/rinsing our little ones hair, too), shells, smooth rocks and I think that's all we have in there HTH!
