Mei tai on the back help

My DS will be 1 year old next month. When he was 2 or 3 months old I bought a mei tai, a gorgeous carrier but made out of some very heavy material and so I haven't used it all summer. This upcoming fall/winter I am looking forward to getting it out again and trying a back carry with it. I have only ever used it on the front, and generally I cross the straps behind my back and tie it over my tummy/his back. I am just wondering how you do this with him on your back? Do you tie on the side? or is there some trick I am missing entirely?

If you take a look on youtube, you'll get some great back carry videos and how tos. I like to lexi twist over the bum and tie tibetan, but that really needs a LOT of strap to pull off. I have one now with really long wrap-style unpadded straps, at this age, I need padding.

Just bring the straps over your shoulders and under your armpits like a backpack. Take them behind your back, over each outside leg, then crossing underneath the bum and brought out from under each leg, and then tie off. That's the easiest way to start!

In my MT, i always cross on my chest, pass under his butt and tie around my waist. With my onbu i tie tibetan, since crossing leads to strangulation.

I just (as in, 30 minutes ago) figured out how to do a back carry with my mei tai by watching You Tube videos. I had to watch a few and see the different techniques. It is soooo much more comfortable, so it's worth trying. I tried it on the edge of a bed looking in a mirror so I could see myself and not worry if I dropped DS (I didn't ).
