They are having a huge sale that ends tomorrow. $25 gift certificates for, like $2 or $3. I've never bought/used them. But I'm thinking maybe I should stock up...maybe for holiday gifts?

Have you used them? I know you have to spend a min of $35 to use the $25 GC, and you are still on the hook for gratuity. Also, one GC per table. But still pretty awesome, right? Am I missing anything??

Nope, you're not missing anything. I've used them for a while now without issue because they often run 80% off promotions. I would just recommend you check a few things:
  • How often can you use one for that particular restaurant?
  • Can you eat $X amount of food to make it worth it? We have purchased for restaurants we weren't familiar with only to find out we would have to order 4 entrees to make it worth it. Now I look at the restaurant menu online before buying a GC for a new restaurant.
  • Read the fine print. Alcohol is not usually included, some have other specific requirements, and not all $25 GCs are off a $35 purchase.
  • When you do use it, see if the server added gratuity without letting you know. I find it a horrible practice, but I've had situations where the server didn't let us know. Not a huge deal since I saw it, but I think it's sneaky, so I want to mention it. (You should tip on the total of the meal before the cert, but I think a server should be honest and let you know they added gratuity.)

I have purchased several for out-of-state vacations we've taken, too. When I do this, if I have leftover certs, I just post to the local CL and someone always takes me up on it.

We use these every time we go out to eat. We generally spend $20 for a meal for four, using a $25 gift certificate, buying about $35 in food, and adding in tax and tip. They have the 80% off deals frequently, at the end of most months.

We use them and love 'em!

One of our favorite local diners is on the program and they are terrific about us redeeming them. They don't even give us a hard time if we don't quite make the $35 minimum. There is no penalty (at that location).

In fact, every place we have used them has been a positive experience. We've tried new restaurants this way and gone on more date nights, as well. It has been an all-around awesome deal for us.

I couldn't seem to find this answer anywhere on the site...does anyone know if the g.c. expire?

Thanks,

I just bought 3 gift cards today worth a total of 45 dollars for $3.80! That is nuts! And when I printed them off they say right there "these gift cards do not expire".

I missed the sale!!

denverduo, are you saying you got three gc for $3.80 EACH or $3.80 total??
Don't worry, the 80% off comes around often. Be patient and keep on eye out.

She probably meant $45 in GCs for a total of $3.80, as my savings have been similar when purchasing at 80% off.

I bought a couple of the cards recently and printed out the coupon for one but we haven't used it yet. I'm keeping it in my purse so we have it the next time we go out.
