I'm ambidextrous and have always had a terrible time telling my right from left. I do most stuff with my right hand but can do them all left handed if I need to.
I have two kids who are ambi. One who (at 3) is very left hand dominant. And one who I think is dominant right handed... but he may also be an ambi, I just haven't noticed. My oldest ambi has a terrible time telling left from right as well... I've taught him tricks so he's not embarrassed by it like I was.
Interesting information in this thread.
I think I'm left-footed but I don't know. I know my son did many sports related things left handed when he was younger, not sure how he does stuff now. I never tried to force either hand, just let them decide. It was pretty obvious by around a year that my daughter used her left hand predominantly.
