Have exemption laws changed in CA recently?

My kindergartener did not get the chicken pox vaccine and I thought I would just sign the back of a form when I turned in his paperwork. However, there was no back to the form (just the same form in Spanish) and when I asked about a form the person in the school office said she was new. So the other day I got a letter saying, basically, that if I did not get him vaccinated before October 8th he would not be able to come to school. There was no mention of the exemption option.

I just wanted to double check that there has not been a change in the law recently. I found all kinds of forms to use as affidavits online, but none had clear dates so I wasn't sure how current they were.

I signed a waiver form for my daughter (who is even more selectively vax'd) for preschool, so I'm guessing the law hasn't changed. But the letter they sent was so definitive that I'm all paranoid now.

As far as I know, there's been no change in the law. Some schools make it hard for you to track down the right form, though.

You should be able to get the form from the dept of health

CA "requires" Hep A for school admission???

OP, I've heard it's not uncommon in CA for administrators to "forget" to include the back of the form. As Emmeline demonstrated by posting her link, they're going to get away with that less and less in the Digital Age...

Thanks! My husband was also able to check the Health and Safety Code, and it is just the same as is posted online in numerous places.

In addition to not having a back side when I originally filled out the form, the form the school sent along with its letter was missing the back side (and there was no Spanish version on the back). I think that since we're in a hyper-educated, liberal town, they assume anyone who feels strongly enough about it will find the correct form to use or knows someone who can write letter. Thank goodness for the Internet!

Thanks again for the links,

Cathy
