walking wintery shoes for small feet?

My little guy is 9 months old and walking well. He still spends a lot of time crawling, but is now spending 1/2 his waking time on his feet, and about 1/2 crawling.

So I am looking for some shoes that are good for outside (a little more sole then a robbeez) but still small enough for his little foot! He's in a Robbeez 12-18 month slipper, but at the lower end, so like a 4.5?

Is there a good way to measure his feet?

We have cold winters, some snow but not a ton, mostly wet (Portland, OR).

I really like the soft moccasin soles for a new walker too. However for a more substantial shoe we are happy with Modern Basics. It's marketed as a slipper but I would describe it as a shoe (I was searching for something soft when I saw it)

i second the soft stars recommendation. LOVE them for so many reasons! locally made, easy to slip on & off, warm (if you get the ones with sheepskin lining!), flexible yet stable, and super cute!!!!

Thanks, mamas. I'm leaning towards a robbeez boot/soft star shoe.

SS are so expensive, though! But I guess you only have one first pair of shoe.

My other kids have all had robeez as their first shoe, and they always wore holes in the toes... SS seem a bit stronger though.

I'm going to hold off until probably Christmas, though, since it is still warm and Indian Summer like.
