So, do any of you exercise? - Page 2

I get up at 5 am 4-5 times a week and run outside. After DS goes to bed, I hop on the treadmill and run another couple of miles. In total, it's about 1-1.5 hours of exercise a day. I bought the treadmill on Craigslist for cheap becuase I was living in a place where I couldn't run outside year-round. I recently finished Couch to 5k and am training for a half marathon. And I lift weights while watching TV.

A year ago my activity level was zero. Since starting this in March, I've lost about 70 pounds. I'm squeezing in running with work, school, teaching, and spending time with DS. I've learned to make it a priority.

I haven't had a regular exercise routine since before DS was born, but I've recently decided to start fitting one in. I feel so out of shape! My job is very physical but I really miss my cardio and weight lifting routines I used to do. I'm going to try to do that before work in the morning, 3-4 times a week, as long as I get enough sleep the night before. I also signed up for an online yoga class that i can do whenever I have free time. (haha)

Pre-pregnancy, I was doing well with the Wii Fit. DS thinks it's fun to watch and "play along."

My hips/pelvis have really been bothering me this pregnancy, so I've had to pretty much cut out any unnecessary movement (man I wish we had a poolin this town...).

I do these 10-minute workout videos that I livestream from Netflix. I'm a grad student and part-time journalist, so I'm way busier than I was as a full time professional, but my schedule is slightly more flexible than it was. I've been trying to do at least one of the 10-minute sets just about every day. That adds up to an hour per week, plus I walk or ride my bike all over the place, so that's good exercise too.
I really miss going to yoga, but it's hard as a single parent. I think I'm going to try to go to at least one yoga class per week on campus while DS is in daycare.

Ahhhhahahahahaha....

Oh wait, you were serious.

I work full time and don't do anything that doesn't involve the kids (4 and 1) after work and on weekends that I'm free. So I do some yoga in the living room and have an elliptical. We bike and walk with the kids, sometimes just at the mall, though. I take the stairs at work! Housework (I've heard) is exercise, too!

I am a full-time student, and I haven't had a ton of time to exercise since DS2 was born a little over a year ago. Over the summer, I ran a 5K, but DH always looked annoyed when I would go for a run (I was studying a lot for a large standardized test you take to get into pharmacy school and was already gone a lot).

So I joined a gym with limited childcare last month. DH is also a full-time student, so when he is in class, I take the boys to the gym with me. The fact that I can take an uninterrupted shower and do my hair/make-up without one foot on the toilet (to keep the baby out of it) has been a big inducement to actually go.

I would say I make it ~4x a week. Sometimes more, on exam weeks less. I just try to squeeze it in where I can. Once the boys are older and don't wake up at the crack of dawn, I'll probably get up early and go in the mornings - that is by far my preferred workout time.

My exercise has seriously decreased, esp.after 2nd kiddo. I do belong to a gym with childcare. DD has been going there since she was 3 weeks old so we are totally comfy with it, plus the longest she would be there is an hour and a half. We jog with the stroller and on weekends can have kids hang out with DH while I go for a run. I belly dance once a week. But I do miss the days of hardcore gym 4-5/week(sigh). When kids were young I could do an exercise video during naptime.

Sparklett - That's so inspring. Congratulations on your awesome weightloss! I really really miss working out these days. I was running almost regularly over the last month of the summer - then it all went to %$# when I started working full time again this fall. I've got to get out there again - I LOVE to run. LOVE it. But I also love not feeling like a zombie when I do it - which is what I feel like these days after work and family obligations are fulfilled. I am hopeful this season will pass. My running shoes are beckoning.

And my core is softening up at an alarming rate. My clothes fit fine, but I feel rounder and softer. And I'm convinced I'm crazier when not working out. Running keeps me mentally stable.

Exercise is a huge booster for my mental health. My 45 minutes in the gym is a time to alone with my thoughts,, time to actually listen to music on my iPod (who has time to do that with kids?!!?), and just work it.

It does wonders for my self esteem, and the killer muscle mass I've been putting on makes me feel so comfortable in my own skin.
