I have a couple of 1.2m square raised beds and I"ve just come in from watering... one of the beds is SWARMING with ants! I know ants aerate the soil and all that... but there were literally thousands of them swarming all over as soon as the water touched the soil! Is there anything that can be done to get rid of them? Obviously I don't want to use nasties on our food, but I'm hoping there is something that's thought to be reasonably safe that I can do to keep them from 1) destroying everything! and 2) make it safe for me & the kids to harvest stuff/water/ plant. (we have VERY nasty ants here that are im(experienced!)o, much more painful than fire ants!)

We have had a ton of rain lately, and my entire yard is marked with hundreds of little ant hills NOT happy now as my kids can hardly go out there. SO any help or ideas would be appreciated!
