If You Don't Let Prefolds ...

Why not?

You mean like?

I use them at home. The only think I don't like about them is that they are a bit bulky to carry around if you're out and about all day. In that case I pack AIOs (a bit less bullky) or sposies.

Life with a new baby is just too busy to fuss with a prefold. The extra money was worth the convenience of fitteds for our familly.

They both need covers. The both have to be shut somehow. I don't really see a difference in the amount of fuss between PFs and fitteds...

I agree.

Ive never felt there was any kind of "fuss" with prefolds. I dont use a snappi, I just fold them the way that id stick them straight in the cover when I take them off the clothes line. When I change a diaper, I just pop a new prefold in the cover. Unless its poop, then we get a new cover and a prefold. I use BG pockets when we are out, but I use the BGs as covers for my prefolds while im at home.

With my older daughter I didn't like prefolds for several reasons. First, she was very tiny. I though that I could get away with using premiums by the time we started CDing (at around 4 months old) but the fact was that they were just WAY too bulky. I still used them, but I wasn't a fan. Second, she had very sensitive skin. She would get bleeding rashes from sposies, which is the reason I switched to cloth in the first place. She couldn't have wetness touch her skin at ALL. I had to use a fleece liner, so that was just one extra step to make things difficult. Lastly, I worked at a daycare. Though I was in the same room as my daughter, there were times where other people had to change her. Nobody else could seem to figure out how to place the liner correctly, fold the diaper, and fasten it well. It also took a lot of time to accomplish all of those things on a squirmy baby. I simply didn't have the extra time with so many other babies to attend to. All of this led me to discover pockets. I used FBs almost exclusively until she PLed... keeping the prefolds as back-up.

With my second DD, though, I *loved* prefolds. I fully expected to continue with pockets, but we had some trouble getting pockets to fit her in the beginning. She kept gaining weight and changing shape... and I couldn't get a single pocket to fit her consistently and well. I discovered that using the correct size prefold made all the difference. When correctly sized, prefolds can be trim and fit perfectly. Eventually her growing slowed down and we were able to use pockets without issue. But I still preferred our prefolds. They were fun, simple, comfy for her, and so easy to wash. Our favorites were PB&E bamboo velour prefolds, as well as our organic colorgrown prefolds. But we used regular unbleached cotton prefolds too. Honestly I found prefolds and wool covers to be extremely simple to use. We did keep the pockets around for times when checking and changing our daughter wasn't going to happen as frequently (ie: car rides), but other than that I always reached for our prefolds.

So anyhow, I think prefold preferences rest largely on the child and the circumstances of the family. There is no "best" diapering option for everyone. But prefolds are a lovely, inexpensive, and logical solution for many diapering needs.

When DD was a nb, I religiously used prefolds, but once she outgrew them and became more mobile/wiggly, I preferred the ease of a AIO.

She also ALWAYS soaked thru prefolds overnight, so I wasn't in love with them regardless.

I can see it

I use PFs 100% but if I was made of money, I would have fitteds they are just soooo cute and come in lots of colors and the thirsties are sooo soft! I can't help myself. I also don't want to pay $8 or more when I can get a flat or PF for like $2 or less!

DH doesn't use PFs except to stuff pockets. He doesn't know how to fold them. I tried to show him, but then I saw him try to fold a letter into an envelope. It's best he stick with the pockets.

For us? Too time consuming to do the different folds and they are quite bulky. Tri-folding doesn't work for DS.

I use a pre-fitted. They are pretty easy; they need a cover, but they don't need to be closed with anything.

I like modern cloth diapers. I don't really like folding and tucking and pinning, or snappis.

There are plenty of people who prefer nice easy snaps and aplix.

My fitteds all came w snaps and elastic. My pfs didnt. My fitteds only leak poo if they're ill fitting (i dont keep ill fitting dipes), my pfs leak poo about 50% of the time. Add in having to fight w a squirming babe whodoesnt want a dipe, snaps are hard enough, a snappi is next to impossible. And since we use wool, trifolding is not an option.

But, pfs are great to have on hand for those days when you just cant get laundry done, to soak up anything and everything baby dumps on the floor, to clean up after a party, etc.

Because I find old-fashioned flats to be much more economical and last from newborn to PLing .

Nah, I still like my PFs... but I just love the exact fit you can get by folding my own flat to the exact size my kiddo needs. I halfheartedly did the fitted thing for a while, but it just seemed like such a money pit. We had/have a few pocket diapers for when we have a babysitter, but that's about the extent of our fanciness... and we stuff them with flats, anyway.

I think it's just takes practice. I can put on a PF with a snappi in the same amount of time it would take me to velcro and WAY less time than it would take me to snap.

I like prefolds because they are pretty easy to wash and dry, they don't seem to get much buildup on them, and they are pretty easy to put on, especially if you just lay them in a wrap. But my dh hates them and wants me to get sposies for when he's watching dd.
I tend to try to catch dd before or during a poop so that we don't have to worry about leaks. We do EC part time.

Fitteds work better on a mobile baby.

i have skinny babies and my (bambino mio) pf's always leaked. i switched to bamboozle fitteds and they never leak, even when there's a poopy explosion. of course it could be the brand that was the problem, but it put me off the whole style. and fwiw the BTP bamboozles i bought were a good deal cheaper than prefolds, because there's only one size nappy and 2 sizes of wrap.

Dd especially HATED feeling wet (for the 60seconds it took us to get her and change her) and so we started in with AIOs with fleece lining for her. I did use some prefolds on ds, but after he outgrew the covers I had I switched to all AIOs.

I don't do prefolds for a few reasons:
I like to have ds go coverless or with fleece longies, and I don't like snappis or pins.
I don't like that when you try to trifold them, that they don't stay put, and they don't trifold exactly (some layers overlap).
They take a long time to dry.

I usually use fitteds (daytime) or "trifolded" flats (nighttime).
