Juicer vs Blender?

Hey,

My sister is looking for a juicer for our BIL - and was asking me what I knew about juicers vs. blenders. Soo----

1. What's your favorite/recommended brand/type of juicer, and why?

2. For someone who's making fresh juice, smoothies, etc. would it be better to get a deluxe blender, or a juicer (she's not sure whether he has a blender already or not).

3. Can you recommend any cookbooks/manuals which give some good recipes and advice for using a juicer (or for using a blender as a juicer?)?

....I don't have a juicer myself and have never researched them, so TIA for any information!

i dont have much experience with juicers, but i saw noone replied to your qs, so i thought i'd write at least sth...
juicers and blenders to me serve sort of a different purpose, if he's really into juices and does juice cleanses or something of that sort, blender wouldnt really do the work.
if she wants to buy sth to just add healthy drinks to their diet, id just get a blender, i think its more versatile.
the best blender to get is vitamix, but those can run up to 400.00... there are other off-brands that work almost as good, but i cant think of them off the top of my head.
as for recipes, check out websites/books that have raw cuisine recipes. just google it, and bookstores usually have a few right along where vegetarian books are. they have some delicious combinations for both juices and smoothies. i own a few and have done some extraordinary smoothies from those books.
sorry i cant be of more help

I've got both and they both work very differently. A juicer removes all of the pulp/fiber so all you're left with is juice whereas a blender liquifies everything but leaves the pulp in.

I only say this because you can't really use a juicer to make a smoothy. And you can't really use a blender to make juice unless you strain the pulp.

If I had to choose one I would go with a blender because I prefer smoothies to juice anyways.
