My Synthroid and Baby's Growth? Need Help

Hi, DD is almost 16mos and her ped is concerned that her growth curve has really flattened. Shortly after birth she shot up to the 97th percentile for height and weight and now she is down to 20 for height and 10 for weight. She has a history of numerous food intolerances, but is eating what seems to be a fair amount of food in addition to nursing multiple times throughout the night and several times per day. The ped drew blood to test for true allergies and celiacs (no results yet), but I'm left wondering what else might be the cause (if this isn't just her normal).

I am hypothyroid and on daily synthroid. In order for me to feel OK, my Endo keeps my TSH very low. My question is whether my synthroid could be passing through my milk to DD and affecting her weight gain and growth. Anyone with info on this?

just to be sure, is your ped using the WHO chart? http://www.who.int/childgrowth/stand...irls_p_0_2.pdf

yes, they use the WHO charts. No, I haven't asked about her thyroid levels yet. It just occurred to me after our visit.

Have they done testing for RTA? (urine and blood testing) That's a common cause of growth issues that I see.
I wouldn't worry about your synthroid dose and its effects. We all have TSH, T4 and T3 in our bodies. If those things negatively affected babies who breastfed, then it would happen to all babies, even those of euthyroid mothers.

I agree with this. thyroid issues can be genetic, so if they are doing blood on baby checking tsh may be a good idea anyway.

i was hoping that her slow growth would be 'fixed' by using the WHO chart.

No testing for RTA-I dont even know what that is. What is it and what are the symptoms?

My concern about synthroid was whether I might be overmedicated (though I feel fine) and whether the synthroid could pass into my milk in larger quantities and affect her thyroid balance.

I think the ped is not so much concerned that she is in the 10th and 20th percentile for weight and height respectively, but that she was previously in the 97th percentile for each and now her individual curve has really changed.

There aren't many symptoms of RTA except growth retardation. http://kidney.niddk.nih.gov/kudiseas...bularacidosis/ That outlines it well. It's something to consider. I really doubt it's synthroid related.
