This question has probably been asked....

But I can't find the answer. DS is nearing 12 months. I will continue to breastfeed until he is ready to wean. Anyhow, all we have for milk at home is raw goats milk from our own goat. Is a year too young to drink it? When can he?
Thanks

I think a year old is a great time to introduce raw goat's milk. The main issue I think is to avoid giving too much, because it would be a shame to displace breastmilk too much at this age. But a small amount-- a cup a day or so-- seems like it would be fine. I'm not an expert, of course-- but I think I would try it, if it were me.

Safe? Yes. Necessary? No. If you're still bf, no other milk is necessary.

I agree with Cristeen. I did not offer any other milk to my (in the process of self weaning) dd until shortly before she turned three. A few months ago I started to offer her small amounts of raw cow's milk now and then, but it's not much - maybe an ounce a few times a week at most. As a CLW mama I prefer my babies have breastmilk as their primary beverage for the first two years. Another milk can easily displace nursing and accidentally hasten weaning. At the same time, I think it's simple enough for a mama who wants to CLW to keep track of that and not offer too much.
