I read an article in the local paper that was of course encouraging everyone to get the new flu vax...with 3 strains...and it said that pregnant women who get the vax will actually be granting immunity to their newborn child...is this true? I dont think so ...but wanted to hear from you.

the shot itself has no direct effect on your babies immunity. however, if you have the shot and it is effect, you could, via breastfeeding, transfer temporary passive immunity. Of course, the passive immunity would be for the strains in the shot you received, which may or may not be the illness circulating.

^ But you do not need a shot to do that, either. You would still be passing immunities to baby via breastmilk if you are even exposed to anything...even if you do not get sick. And agreed with the above poster. The flu vaxes are a the most "common" flus from years past, but the flu mutates quickly and so they are never "current".

The shot also gives you plenty of eggs, formaldahyde, aluminium, thimerasol, and polysorbate 80 among other things.

There are safer ways to get immunity.

I think there actually have been studies that show that babies of women who got the shot have higher antibodies and less flu disease than those who did not. I am heading to Bday party now but I will pull these up when I get back.

new study out today concludes the same as the one I posted in previous post: maternal flu vaccination seems to protect their infants.
