OK to use anti-fungal treatment for yeast infection after ovulation?

I'm TTC and have a yeast infection. I've been trying to treat it with "natural" methods -- including some that have worked well for me in the past -- but so far, no luck. I'll try the garlic-clove-in-the-vagina tonight, but I've tried it a few times with previous yeast infections and haven't found it to work for me.

I'm thinking of using an over-the-counter yeast infection treatment (I do find them very effective, based on past experience -- I probably find I need to use one once every year or two) starting after I'm positive I ovulated, so we're finished "trying" for this cycle. If I do that, will the medication decrease the chance of getting pregnant? Will it be safe for the embryo if I were so lucky to conceive this cycle?

If you think it's OK to use one of these, any theories about whether I'm better doing the 3 day or the 7 day kind? I assume the 3 day is a heavier-duty medication, but then I'm medicating for a shorter time, versus a milder medication for longer.

No one knows? I've googled a bit, but I guess I'll call my doctor... (and keep sticking garlic cloves up there and downing acidophilus in the meantime.)

Still welcoming insights!

Hmmm... I have odd reactions to things, so I'm not sure my experience will be much help. The last time I had a yeast infection I used the One Dose and it not only made me frighteningly sick, but it also brought on my period on CD15! Like a day or two after I ovulated.

I hope you get more replies.

I've never tried a one-dose kind -- they always sort of scare me to think what they might do to one's system to try to knock it out in a single dose. Usually I do the 7-day kind figuring it's the mildest approach (no idea if it's true, but that's always what I've chosen in the past). This time I was thinking maybe 3-day to reduce how long my body would be exposed to the treatment.

Hi.....this happened to me in July and I spoke with the midwife at my ob/gyn office. She said Monistat is fine-I was also in that two weeks after ovulation and trying to conceive. She said that the 7day treatment is the most effective and to not bother with the one day treatment. It cleared it for me. Feel better-they are the worst!

Oh, that's good to know. Maybe I'll return this 3-day and pick up a 7 instead. I don't think I've ovulated yet, so for now I'm hanging in there with garlic and acidophilus, which don't seem to be doing much!

I have had some luck with Apple Cider Vinegar.

Normally if I can keep it bearable until AF, AF clears it up. I know that's not much help when you don't want AF!

Chiming in late on this one, sorry - but I agree. The 7 day ones are the ones to go for. The one day ones really don't provide any relief and are more hit or miss. I keep a box in my linen closet just in case one sneaks up on me. I think I remember my mw telling me last pg that it was safe to treat a yeast infection w/monistat, so if it's safe during pg, I would think it's safe during the tww.

I just thought I'd post a quick update here in case anyone is ever searching for this info in the future.

I did call and ask my doctor this question, and she said it is safe, but told me to get one of the over-the-counter meds that uses clotrimazole, not miconazole (Monistat).

I tried apple cider vinegar internally and externally yesterday with no luck. Now I've ovulated (woo-who!) so I have the option of switching to the meds. I may try one more apple cider vinegar treatment before I switch, though.
